Voter Education in Sagarejo Municipality

In September 2019, Good Governance Institute with the support of the Central Election Commission of Georgia, implement the two-month training program related to the voter education and development of the civic culture. The training was conducted in Sagarejo municipality at the District Election Commission. The project endeavored to raise the level of civic engagement and electoral awareness among the youth and ethnic minority groups.



The training program combined academic and practical exercise. The academic part of the training covered the electoral and political issues such as active citizenship and the importance of participation in the country's governance through elections, State organization of Georgia; Rules for formation of electoral bodies; Freedom of choice - voting rights and their use, Inclusiveness of elections, Gender equality, Security of elections, Election administration and modern election technologies. Within practical group assignments, participants discussed different electoral systems and played interactive games related to the development of the group-working skills. Furthermore, the participants had the opportunity to debate on election system designs and the art of negotiation. The training program was facilitated by the representatives of CEC.



Within the framework of the project, an introductory meeting was held at the Sagarejo Municipal Assembly. The chairman of the Assembly, Mr. Chalatashvili, has explained the role and the activities of the Assembly and shared his personal experience and thoughts about the local governance. At the end of the meeting, participants were awarded certificates for the successful completion of the training program.
